A forty five year journey has brought me back, full circle, to my love of painting. Now, as then, art offers a direct connection back to myself, and allows what I feel to become visible. 

Paintings usually begin with my eyes closed, mixing color and painting by hand as I create an “energy blueprint” on canvas, wood, or paper. I typically feel a mix of emotions as I begin and the impulses of my hands and fingers connect to the surface. After several layers of shape and color, I begin to sense who or what lies in these forms. Shapes eventually express themselves with brushes, as I respond to what I feel is there as energy and movement.

The painting slowly reveals itself until completion, as I try to stay as present to the original impulses of energy as possible. I believe that intention informs everything, and form and color are the expression of that energy. Painting for me, directly accesses the emotional and etheric bodies, expressing in form what I simply could never express otherwise.

Art and architecture for me are inseparable. The creative process is similar, but differs fundamentally.  Designing space, I work from the outside in, exploring opportunities within constraints.  I visualize form, scale, and experience of the space before it takes shape.  With  painting, there is no pre-visualization for me, only the direct experience.  The freedom to explore form, energy, and color are liberating.  The connection that people have with my art further inspires me, and brings a fullness of gratitude I could never have imagined possible.
